Shift to Greater Productivity
Designed and built by Caterpillar specifically for tracked tractors, the powershift transmission features push-button control for each of the 16-forward and 4-reverse gears for reliability and smooth performance.

Each gear engages through a combination of one range clutch and one speed clutch for positive ground speed control, even on slopes. Using the IntellitronicsTM network, continuous electronic communication between the engine and the transmission ensures smooth shifting in any one of six shifting modes:

• Shuttle Shifting
• Programmable Shifting
• Continuous Shifting
• Sequential (Pulse) Shifting
• Pre-Select Shifting
• Speedmatching

The transmission also works with the Power Management system, a control strategy that coordinates engine speed with the transmission, to provide automatic shifting, even under full load. Maximum Power Output assists by maintaining engine speed in the peak power range where horsepower and productivity is maximised.

The Right Speed For The Job
At 24.6 mph (40 kph), Challenger has a higher transport speed than any other tracked tractor, so more time can be spent on the job site and less on the haul road. This improves the cycle times.
