Performance to challenge costs - Highland Show

Challenger rubber tracked tractors are finding favour among Scottish and Borders farmers and contractors looking cut production costs by working larger areas with existing staff. Representing the impressive range at the Royal Highland Show is the 306hp (ISO) Challenger MT 765.

This is the largest model in the three-model MT 700 Series, which offers powers from 255hp to 306hp. “The tractor suits the field size and layout of the holdings and is suitable for working with implements that are currently available on farms. Moreover, because fields tend to be smaller and more spread out, many users appreciate the 40km/hr transport speed and Opti-Ride track suspension,” explains Richard Shelton, Regional Manager, Challenger Products UK & Eire.

While the new MT800B Series has powers up to 600hp in the MT875B, the MT 700 Series is more suited to the work and conditions in the Borders and Scotland. “The MT 700 Series are ideal power units for minimum tillage, which is steadily spreading northwards. These progressive farmers are achieving good results with much lower establishment costs.

“Further north where ploughing remains the preferred cultivation method, because of climate and conditions, Challengers are being used to turn over the ground much faster. Then coupled to a cultivator drill, the tractor is capable of improving outputs from 20ha/day up to 48h-60ha/day. This helps to quickly sow in ideal conditions, producing better crop establishment and ultimately higher yields,” explains Mr Shelton.

Caterpillar, 8.8 litre capacity C9 engines provide the MT 700 Series with outstanding power and performance. The engines are electronically linked to the 16 forward 4 reverse speed Cat-built transmission. This offers a range of automatic shifting functions allowing operators to select the most appropriate mode to maintain peak performance.

Productivity is further enhanced by the Power Management System (PMS) that varies engine, transmission and hitch settings to suit particular applications. This is set, via the Tractor Management Control (TMC) monitor screen, for maximum output, constant engine speed or constant ground speed.

The MT 700 Series also offers class-leading comfort and visibility from its superb new cab. Mounted on ISO block suspension the cab is equipped with top of the range ventilation and cooling, air suspension seat and sophisticated control technology that helps operators to maintain performance during long days and nights.
