The new generation TerraGator 8203 features the latest engines, CAN-Bus electronic control and industry-leading cab comfort, which combine to further boost the productivity of this market-leading applicator.
The successor to the popular TerraGator 8103, the new 330hp model joins the updated 2244 and 3244 launched last year and features the same family cab and bonnet styling. Designed for high speed applications the vehicle is able to apply liquid or solid materials through a pneumatic distributor and booms or with a spinning disc spreader.
Key features include
* New Caterpillar 330hp C9 engine with extra power
* Proven TerraShift 9/3 transmission with thumbshift control
* New Challenger suspended cab design with armrest-mounted multi-function control
* CAN-Bus electronic control of engine, transmission and other functions
* New Falcon VT ISO-compatible multi-function controller
* 1000/50R25 high flotation tyres
* Auto-Guide, fully automatic steering option
The latest generation Cat C9, 8.8 litre, turbo-charged and intercooled engine produces 330hp at 2,100rpm rising to a peak of 357hp as revs fall. Combined with a peak torque of 1,418Nm at 1,400rpm, the engine responds effortlessly to peak demands.
This wide power and torque band is a perfect match for the TerraShift transmission. This offers nine forward speeds and three reverse, selected using thumb switches on the familiar TerraShift lever mounted on the armrest console.
Operators are able to maintain peak performance and outputs by easily selecting the correct speed for the job, with engine’s power and torque reserves maintaining momentum in all conditions and terrain. Automatic shifting modes and cruise control relieve the stress on the operator and help keep the machine working at optimum efficiency.
Operator comfort is key to maintaining machine productivity, which is why the TerraGator 8203 has the best cab in the business - equipped to the highest levels of specification found on any application vehicle.
As well as featuring the same look and ‘family feel’ as other Challenger machines, it also offers operators the same renowned benefits of visibility, comfort and control. Designed specifically for use on an application vehicle, the spacious Challenger cab is specified with climate control, air-conditioning as standard. The pressurised cab far exceeds all quality standards using three-stage filtration including internal and external filters and active carbon cleaning.
Up in the seat operators will not only appreciate the comfort, but also the superior control. The semi-active air-suspended seat is now equipped with the Challenger ergonomically designed control console on the right armrest which incorporates a new easy to read terminal. This displays engine and transmission data, different transmission modes, master apply indicator and warning lights. Buttons beneath the screen are used to program the transmission.
The armrest floats with the seat and houses all commonly used controls and switches grouped logically to ease operation. Among others these include section switches, boom tip raise/lower, AutoGuide, cruise control on/off and centre section raise lower.
Close to the operator is the Terra-Shift lever that is equipped with a release lever, buttons to shift up and down and the ‘master apply’ button.
The new dashboard display is housed in a narrow binnacle and is fitted with modern analogue dials to clearly show speed, engine rpm, fuel, temperature, oil pressure and a Voltmeter.
Mounted on the cab ‘B’-Pillar is a new touch-pad control featuring 18 different keys. This is linked to new CAN-Bus system and as well as now working the lights, it offers operators the opportunity to program buttons with various system controls.
Applications are controlled by the new Falcon VT terminal on the Terra-Gator 8203, which offers unrivalled levels of flexibility and advanced control. The ISO compatible Falcon VT terminal, is based around a touch-sensitive screen, which is also equipped with buttons and a rotary dial to select functions and ‘scroll’ through menus.
This is connected into the vehicle’s systems via the CAN-Bus network. The Console also has an SD-Datacard slot for transferring data, application maps etc. The system monitors forward speeds and adjusts the flow of material, either liquid or solids, to automatically match the pre-set application rates. There is also the option to apply variable rates, according to prescription maps.
The Falcon VT terminal can also be programmed to relieve operators of the burden of many repetitive tasks by simply pressing a button once. It will also operate the type inflation system option, allowing operators to adjust pressures on the move without the need for a separate control box.
Built on sound foundations
Strength and reliability are assured with the cold bent chassis that has no welding on the frame to ensure there are no areas of heat stress. The frame is also designed to flex slightly in work, again to minimise stress in the structure. The cab is mounted exactly in the middle of the chassis, which is the most comfortable position and makes it possible to work at up to 30km/hr in the field.
The chassis equipped with AxleTech axles with double reduction outboard final reduction units and a full air braking system. The front wheel is supported on a 127mm diameter, solid steel King Pin and mounted in two heavy duty Timken roller bearings.
High outputs with low ground pressure
The TerraGator 8203 is equipped with Michelin 1000/50R25 tyres. These provide maximum soil protection that allows the machines to keep working even when conditions deteriorate. The load is spread over a wide area with no two tyres running in the same track for reduced compaction and crop damage.
Stay on track with Auto-Guide option
The new Terra-Gators can now be equipped with the Auto-Guide, fully automatic steering option, to help improve output and precision while reducing operator fatigue.
The system is now neatly integrated into Falcon VT terminal via the vehicle CAN-Bus system. This also receives the dGPS signals for the steering. The TopDock antenna is easily detached so it can be transferred to different vehicles.
Automatic steering is proven to save fuel, reduce overlaps and boost productivity. Simply removing the stress of steering helps improve operator awareness and allows them to concentrate on other aspects and increase output.
Auto-Guide can work to various degrees of accuracy right down to within 25mm, depending on the satellite correction service being used. Moreover, it is easy to upgrade should circumstances change.
