New RoGator 1286C:  Maximum productivity with cost effective operation

With its powerful 311hp engine and proven six-speed hydrostatic transmission the new RoGator 1286C is designed to ensure large scale producers can make the most of every application opportunity.

Fully independent, four-wheel suspension and a market leading quiet cab equipped with the Falcon VT sprayer control reduce operator fatigue and maximise productivity – helping to keep the investment working for longer. To further enhance cost-effective operation, as well as applying liquids the new RoGator 1286C is quickly converted to also spread solid materials either through booms or with a spinning disc.

“Timely and accurate applications are the key to optimum response from pesticide and fertiliser applications,” says Frank Rombouts, Challenger’s agronomist for the EAME region. “The RoGator 1286C has been developed to offer large scale professional enterprises maximum application productivity with cost effective operation.”

Features include:
• 311hp (336hp) Caterpillar C9, 8.8 litre engine
• Deluxe TerraGator style cab with air suspension seat
• Six-speed, Sauer Danfoss hydrostatic transmission
• Four-wheel drive
• Independent front and rear pneumatic suspension
• 4542 litre capacity spray tank
• 24m to 30m wide steel booms
• Latest Falcon VT controller
• Liquid or dry fertiliser spreader bodies

Power to perform
The new RoGator 1286C is powered by the latest Caterpillar C9, 8.8 litre capacity engine delivering 311hp and a peak output of 336hp. This extra power and enormous torque of 1,499Nm developed low down at 1,400rpm allows the machine to maintain high performance in all conditions and terrain.

The engine complies with Tier 3 emissions requirements and is suitable for running on Biodiesel (B30 EN14214).

Power is transmitted via a tandem hydrostat, which employs two Sauer Danfoss Series 90 pumps powering Sampo radial piston motors, which are mounted directly to the wheels. This dual-pump system has two completely separate hydraulic drivelines that each supply motors on opposite front and rear wheels.

This system distributes the power more evenly and ensures if one wheel slips due to adverse ground conditions the others remain turning, and improves grip and performance.

Further improving traction and control, the new transmission offers six speeds with first speed range now offering even power between the front and axles. This offers unmatched performance in wet conditions. The second range helps out when working on hills, reducing wheel hop and slip to a minimum.

“With six speeds there is an ample to choice to ensure operators are able to always select the optimum speed for the conditions and application,” says Frank Rombouts. “The machine is built for high speed applications and is quite capable of spraying at up to 30km/hr.”

Built for comfort and speed
The RoGator 1286C features fully independent pneumatic suspension on all four wheels, along with a ‘Flex’ chassis design. This allows the machine to traverse bumpy ground at high working speeds while maintaining boom stability.

The axles feature hydraulically operated adjustment, front and rear, providing infinite settings between 3.05m to 3.91m (on standard tyres) to suit row crop work and tramlines. Track width indicators provide a useful guide when making adjustments.

Each axle also has automatic steering alignment, with two-wheel steer providing a turning radius of 8.2m. The front wheel motors are fitted with brakes, which are complimented by exhaust- and hydrostatic dynamic braking.

Industry-leading cab comfort and control
The RoGator 1286C offers unsurpassed operator comfort and control, with the highest levels of specification found on any application vehicle.

The new cab, which has pneumatic suspension, has the same look and ‘family feel’ as other Challenger application machines providing the same renowned benefits of visibility, comfort and control.

Equipped with climate control, air-conditioning as standard, the pressurised cab far exceeds all quality standards using three-stage filtration including internal and external filters and active carbon cleaning.

Up in the seat operators will not only appreciate the comfort, but also the superior control. The semi-active, air-suspended seat is now equipped with the Challenger ergonomically designed control console on the right armrest.

This floats with the seat and has all commonly used controls grouped logically to ease operation. The new easy-to-read display terminal at the front of the console shows a wide range of information. To the side of the armrest is an ergonomically designed Multi-function joystick that falls easily to hand and controls the hydrostat, gear shifts, boom, markers and boom section on/off.

Mounted on the cab ‘B’-Pillar is a new touch-pad control featuring 18 different keys. This is used to set numerous functions including boom folding, pump switch, mixing and foam marker.

Falcon VT – for ultimate control
The new Falcon VT terminal is standard on the RoGator 1286C and will control both liquid and dry applications. No other system in the industry offers such advanced levels of flexibility and control.

The ISO compatible Falcon VT terminal, is based around a touch-sensitive screen, which is also equipped with buttons and a rotary dial to select functions and ‘scroll’ through menus.

This is connected into the vehicle’s systems via the CAN-Bus network. The Falcon VT also has one SD-Datacard slots for transferring data, application maps etc. Basically the system monitors forward speeds and adjusts the flow of material, either liquid or solids, to automatically match the pre-set application rates. It can also be programmed to relieve operators of burden of carrying out many repetitive tasks by simply pressing a button once to engage or disengage.

Sprayer pack
For liquid applications the machine is equipped with a massive 4,542 litre capacity tank with a full length 37mm diameter agitation tube and rinse bar for thorough cleaning.

All filling and cleaning controls for the Hypro 512 litre/min (4.6 bar) centrifugal pump are mounted conveniently on the nearside by the cab steps. Mounted next to this is the fold-down ‘Eductor’ filler, which is fitted with a can cleaning nozzle and rinsing head. A foam marker is standard.

There is a choice of 24m to 30m wide steel booms, which are adjustable in height from 78cm to 221cm. Triple nozzle body holders are mounted at 25mm or 50mm intervals.

“The closer spacing provides better spray distribution and cuts drift because of the lower boom position. Every other nozzle can also be shut off, which increases gives a wider spread of application volumes to suit the job,” says Frank Rombouts.

Quick change between liquid or dry applications
For optimum utilisation of the investment, the RoGator 1286C can be quickly converted to also apply solid fertiliser through either booms with the Airmax system or with the New Leader 3020 spinning disc machine. Both of these machines are also controlled via the machine’s standard Falcon VT terminal.

The Airmax 180 pneumatic applicator has a 4.73m³ capacity hopper and 18m wide booms. It is capable of applying rates between 56-1,098kg/ha at a speed of 16km/hr. Rates are varied according to speed via two hydraulically driven belts, controlled by the Falcon VT unit.

Alternatively the New Leader 3020, fitted with a 5.69 m³ hopper, spreads material to a width of 18m with its disc spreader.

Stay on track with Auto-Guide option
The new RoGator 1286C can be equipped with the Auto-Guide, fully automatic steering option, to help improve output and precision while reducing operator fatigue.

The system is neatly integrated into Falcon VT terminal via the vehicle CAN-Bus system, which also receives the dGPS signals for the steering.

Automatic steering is proven to save fuel, reduce overlaps and boost productivity. Simply removing the stress of steering helps improve operator awareness and allows them to concentrate on other aspects and increase output.

Auto-Guide can work to various degrees of accuracy right down to within 25mm, depending on the satellite correction service being used. Moreover, it is easy to upgrade should circumstances change.
