The new Challenger Terra Gator 9205 NMS provides the ultimate in application outputs with both solid or liquid materials. It is the only five-wheeler available in Europe and is the largest self-propelled applicator on the market, offering serious professional users not only tremendous productivity, but also precise applications.
The new Challenger Terra Gator 9205 is the first machine of its type to be built using the new world-wide Nutrient Management system (NMS), with its design incorporating well-proven elements from high performance Challenger tracked tractors and Terra Gators.
These tried and tested Challenger components ensure the new Terra Gator 9205 NMS provides uncompromising performance and reliability.
“Accurate applications of organic manures and composts are an important way of reducing arable production costs,” explains Dorus Van Esch, Ag-Chem Europe Sales and Marketing Director. “The new Terra Gator 9205 NMS is designed to ensure that this organic fertiliser is not only applied precisely, but with the utmost efficiency. The whole concept of the new machine – from filling through to accurate application - is geared to providing exceptional productivity.”
Features include:
· Nutrient Management System (NMS) offers ultimate application control
· SuperLoad increases overall spreading capacity by up to 20%
· 425hp (459hp max) Caterpillar C 13 ACERT, 12.5-litre engine
· Caterpillar TA22 Powershift transmission
· New durable tandem axle chassis
· Maximum flotation from Michelin 1050 * 50 R 32 Mega X Bib radials on all five wheels
· New generation cab offers highest levels of comfort and control
NMS cuts Fertiliser costs
Key to exploiting the nutrient value contained in manures is the Terra Gator 9205 Nutrient Management System (NMS). “Organic manures are not waste, they contain valuable nutrients. It is important that this precious commodity is not squandered. The NMS system ensures it is used wisely to encourage plant growth and prevent pollution,” adds Dorus Van Esch.
The cost of the NMS system is easily recouped by savings in artificial fertiliser, he explains,
“ To make full use of the system the material first needs to be analysed for its nutrient value. Once this is known the NMS program can then be used to ensure the exact application rates, in t/ha, are spread to match the crop requirements.”
The NMS system can be used with both liquid and solid (dry) materials. The system is operated using the latest GTA Console II, 25cm touch-screen controller. This is connected into the vehicle’s systems via the CAN-Bus network. The Console also has two SD-Datacard slots for transferring data, application maps etc. Basically the system monitors forward speeds and adjusts the flow of material, either liquid or solids, to automatically match the pre-set application rates. It works in a similar way to a normal electronically-controlled sprayer or fertiliser spreader.
SuperLoad saves downtime
The SuperLoad system, available for the Challenger Terra Gator 9205 NMS can load a 20m³ tank in 1.44mins, which is 70% faster than normal impeller pump or vacuum systems. Saving between three to four minutes in loading time increases operational capacity by 20% every hour, offering application rates of up to 150m³/hr.
The SuperLoad capacity is achieved by combining the outputs of a conventional mechanical pump with the system’s new centrifugal pump.
Higher engine power for ultimate outputs
Power for the new Terra Gator 9205 comes from a Caterpillar C13 engine, which features the latest technology to not only meet the strict Tier III emission regulations, but also offer uncompromising power and torque with excellent economy.
The 12.5-litre, six-cylinder is turbocharged and intercooled with a rated power of 425hp. There is a superb power delivery, and a maximum power boost to 459hp, to pull big loads through soft spots or up hills with ease. This is a similar power plant as used in the large Challenger tracked tractors, which are renowned for unstinting, economical performance in arduous conditions.
Transmission is perfect match for engine
The electronically-controlled C13 engine is the ideal match for the Caterpillar TA22 Powershift transmission, which is new on the Terra Gator 9205, replacing the former gearbox. Again, a similar system as used on the tracked tractors, although the transmission has been adapted for work in a specialist application vehicle.
There are 16 forwards speeds and 3 reverse, all selected with the touch of a button. Operators can shift up and down through all the gears without using the clutch, under full power and load. It’s also possible to pull away in any gear – up to 5F – without first using the inching pedal (clutch).
The smooth and effortless Powershift allows operators to optimise the forward speed to ensure maximum output and spreading efficiency. Moreover, in ‘autoshift’ mode, the transmission automatically changes speeds, up or down, relative to engine rpm, to further boost outputs. For headland turns operators are able press a button to select ‘Headland’ that automatically shifts the transmission to pre-selected speeds.
Heavy duty chassis
The Terra Gator 9205’s chassis and running gear is completely redesigned to accommodate the extra payload and power. A pair of AxleTech axles, fitted with air actuated drum brakes are mounted to a Hendrickson tandem, walking-beam unit. The four rear wheels ‘walk’ over any lumps and bumps, allowing the vehicles to closely follow ground undulations.
Superb flotation and minimal compaction results from all wheels, including the single front, now being fitted with Michelin 1050/50R32 MegaXBib, radial tyres.
New cab offers comfort and control
The new cab offers superb operator comfort and convenience. A much larger glass area provides great all-round visibility, with standard climate control air-conditioning maintaining a comfortable environment whatever the temperature outside.
The air-suspension seat now has controls, including the powershift transmission lever, mounted into a side console, which moves with the seat.
