The specially equipped Challenger MT800B Scraper Series high-horsepower rubber tracked tractors offer users the most cost effective method of shifting soil or bulk materials on site.
With a special scraper hitch plate, capable of withstanding 9,000kg of vertical load, the tractors are designed to pull one, two or three towed scrapers. They are, however, also adept at handling discs, rippers, water tanks, rollers, dumpers and other implements. This highlights the machines’ versatility – a key benefit of using rubber tracked scraper tractors as opposed to specialist self-propelled equipment or bulldozers.
The MT800B Scraper Series offers five models with rated engine powers from 350hp through to 570hp – the most powerful rubber-tracked tractor on the market.
Model Rated Engine power
MT835B 350hp (260kW)
MT845B 400hp (298kW)
MT855B 460hp (342kW)
MT865B 510hp (380kW)
MT875B 570hp (424kW)
Rubber tracks offer high productivity
Key to the Scraper tractor’s high productivity when working with scrapers is the innovative Mobil-trac rubber track system. This combines speed, mobility and versatility of tyres with the traction, flotation, low ground pressure and smooth ride of tracks.
The rubber-tracked scraper tractor is much faster over the ground than metal tracked machines. Also a special suspension system allows operators to achieve and maintain high speeds in comfort, improving output. With a top speed of 40km/hr – faster than any other tracked tractor – more time is spent working on site rather than on the haul road.
Suspension comfort not only improves speed, but also increases traction. At 3.0m between axle centres, the Mobil-trac system is the longest in the industry. With more belt in contact with the ground this improves traction and balance, while still providing a tighter turn than any articulated tractor.
Wide track choice to suit all applications
A wide choice of undercarriage options allows users to tailor the Challenger Scraper tractor to fit specific operations. There are two treadbar designs and three belt widths to suit every application.
The Extreme Application Belt is available in three widths and is designed to handle heavy road travel, steep side slopes or work in abrasive traction conditions. These feature a thick carcass to resist wear from stones, tall tread bars for longer life and traction as well as long guide blocks.
The Special Application Belt is designed for working in harsh conditions and primary scraper operations. These have 62.5mm tall tread bars, which help reduce flex and reduces wear on uncompacted and unbroken soils. The carcass is also thicker, featuring two extra layers of rubber on the inner belt surface.

Shift to higher outputs
Designed and built by Caterpillar specifically for tracked tractors, the powershift transmission used on all MT800B Scraper Tractors features push-button control for 16F/4R gears. The ‘Intellitronics’ network provides continuous electronic communication between the engine and transmission ensuring smooth shifting in one of six operating modes:
* Shuttle
* Programmable
* Continuous
* Sequential pulse
* Pre-select
* Speedmatching
The transmission also works with Power Management, which controls the engine speed and transmission providing automatic shifting even under full load. Maximum power output assists by automatically downshifting when the engine speed drops below the optimum setting and changing up when the load reduces. This maintains peak power for maximum productivity.
Intelligent load-responsive hydraulics
The Challenger Scraper tractor’s unique Load Independent Flow Division (LIFD) hydraulics is the perfect system for operating scrapers, helping to boost outputs with positive control. Instead of diverting hydraulic flow from one job to another when demands exceed pump capacity, which is often the case when towing two scrapers; the LIFD system divides the flow proportionally. This allows all functions to continue operating, rather than diverting the oil flow to the line of least resistance, as can happen with other systems.
Cab comfort for maximum productivity
The Challenger cab is the best on the market, offering the ultimate in space, visibility, comfort and control. Operators will always be working in the ideal temperature thanks to standard climate control. The 10-way fully adjustable, air suspension seat accommodates any shape and size of operator, offering superb comfort to reduce stress and fatigue.
A tilt and telescopic steering column is equipped with a unique single spoke steering wheel with integral ‘spinner ball’.
All the controls fall easily to hand on the seat-mounted operating console, which moves with the seat. This includes an integral monitor screen that is used for making all machine settings and adjustments as well as monitoring the tractor’s functions.
The One-Touch management system can record and replicate a wide range of often repeated functions such as shifting speeds, activating hydraulics and other controls. Once stored these are all then ‘played back’ with one touch of a single button.
