Challenger MT 700 Series powers in

The four models that make up the Challenger MT700 Series are completely new from the ground up, and are the only machines of their type designed and built exclusively for use as a tracked tractor.

Challenger MT700 Series

Model       Engine Power (DIN)

MT735            235hp
MT745            255hp
MT755            290hp
MT765            306hp

All models feature:

  • Outstanding performance from all new, six cylinder, 8.8 litre capacity Cat C-9 engines. Fully electronically controlled with a ‘full authority’ electronic engine management system. Engine and transmission linked by ‘Intellitronics’
  • Cat-built all new 16/4 speed transmission, electro-hydraulically controlled, providing a top speed of 40kph. Plus a range of shifting options and automatic controls. Eight gears in the 8-15kph field working range. Uprated electronic over hydraulic differential steering system
  • Redesigned Mobil-trac undercarriage with Opti-Ride® suspension and front axle pivot
  • All new closed centre, load-sensing hydraulic system supplying a variable flow rate from 3.7 – 113.5 litres/min to each spool valve at 200 bar. Four standard (up to six) spool valves with electronically adjustable flow and pressure. Unique ‘Load Independent Flow Division’ system
  • All new three-point linkage with a lift capacity of up to 11,000kg. Optional steerable hitch
  • Unprecedented space, comfort and visibility from an all new cab. Tractor Management Centre (TMC) monitors and controls tractor functions. One-Touch® headland management records two different, complete sequences. Surround-Flow® ventilation system and air-suspended seat with 25 degrees of swivel to the right.

Superb cab comfort and control

Mounted on iso block suspension, the new MT700 Series cab provides the ultimate working environment in terms of space, comfort and visibility. Surround-Flow® ventilation supplies an industry leading 11.3cu m/min airflow from a range of high and low vent positions. And the air suspension seat adjusts to accommodate every size and shape. Optional new Nightbreaker® HID lighting package is the brightest on the market.

The new cab is also equipped with the most sophisticated control technology. Tractor Management Control (TMC) monitors and controls tractor functions and incorporates a monitor screen along with all the transmission, hydraulic, linkage and PTO controls.

A selector knob allows operators to set and adjust 16 different functions that are shown on the TMC display. These include settings for items such as transmission Power Management and spool valves as well as a performance monitor, and information about fuel use, tractor information and servicing.

There’s also normal an analogue dashboard showing engine rpm, fuel level and temperature on normal gauges. A comprehensive array of warning lights is arranged around the dash.

One-Touch Management System

The One-Touch® Management System’ records all of the operations in the headland turn. The switch has two positions – one for entering work (Work) and the other to the lift the implement at the other end of the headland (Raise).

All the operator does is press the switch to record the actions as the machine is put into work, and the same when it is raised. These whole sequences are then played back at the touch of a button at either end of the bout.

All new Cat C-9 engines

Challenger MT700 Series tractors are powered by the all new 8.8 litre, six cylinder Caterpillar C-9 engine. All engines are turbo-charged and intercooled. The 306hp DIN, MT765 model also has a waste-gated turbo. The engines provide the power and economy required by ‘production farmers’ while also complying with the latest emissions regulations.

The C-9 is the first engine to use the new HEUI-B (Hydraulically actuated Electronically controlled Unit Injector) fuel injector. Electronic control of the flow and timing of the delivery rate allows the system to tailor fuel delivery to precisely match the engine’s current load and speed settings. Full electronic engine management is looked after by the ADEM III (Advanced Diesel Engine Management).

Purpose-built transmission

New from the ground up, the Challenger powertrain is designed solely for use on a tracked tractor. The powershift provides 16 forward, four reverse gears with eight speeds in the 6-15kph field working range.
The engine and transmission are linked electronically via the Intellitronics® system that controls the shifting in relation to operating conditions. The system also provides a wide range of automatic operating modes. Operators are able to select the mode most suitable for the job. The tractor’s electronics then changes the gears and throttle settings to achieve optimum performance.

Tractor productivity is further improved by the Power Management System which varies the engine, transmission and hitch settings to suit particular applications. This can be set, via the TMC, for maximum output, constant engine speed and constant ground speed.

Added comfort from Mobil-trac® suspension

The Mobil-trac® system has been completely updated for the MT700 Series and is now fitted with the exclusive Opti-Ride® suspension system. This system not only improves comfort in the field and on the road, but also allows the front ‘axle’ to oscillate up and down by up to 150mm to ride over lumps and bumps.

With a wheelbase of 240cm, the Mobil-trac® unit is the longest in the industry.
This length improves balance and traction while reducing ground pressure from the new tracks that have a 10%-14% larger contract area than before.

Track steering has been improved with an electronic over hydraulic system. This provides speed-sensitive steering and a quicker steering response.

Quick acting hydraulics

Power on demand is provided by the load-sensing hydraulic pump, which supplies flowrates of up to 166 litre/min. Four spool valves are standard but up to six can be supplied – and all can be connected under pressure. The new ‘Load Independent Flow Division’ system evenly divides the flow to the services in proportion to their specific demands. This prevents the service requiring the highest flow from taking all the flow, and all spools continue to operate.

The three point linkage has a lift capacity of up to 11,758 kg and PTO with a 20-spline, 1¾” diameter shaft is also standard. A steerable linkage is an option.

Electronic control

MT700 Series uses three separate CAN-BUS systems to monitor and control the entire tractor. These link all the various components and allow items such as Autoguidance and GPS receivers to plug straight in. There are also plenty of power points to suit a wide range of control boxes. A sealed access allows wire to be conveniently routed out of the cab.

Service and Maintenance

Daily maintenance checks on the new MT700 Series are all easily accessible. Engine oil level is checked with a dipstick and other oil levels are inspected with sight gauges. The one-piece bonnet lifts to reveal the radiators that all fold away on hinges for cleaning. Engine oil, filters and fuel filters are changed every 500hrs – except on the MT765, which is at 250hrs.

Challenger Dealers offer unparalleled levels of service and back up, providing 24hr a day, seven day a week support in the Challenger working seasons. An unrivalled parts back up is provided by AGCO’s Parts Distribution network. This service is unmatched by any other farm machinery supplier.
