Engine

The MT900C Series boasts outstanding performance from Tier III Caterpillar® C15 and C18 ACERT™ technology six-cylinder diesel engines that are both turbocharged and after-cooled. In fact, the 18.1 liter (1,105 cu. In.) C18 model, used in the MT965C and new MT975C, is the largest displacement engine in the agricultural tractor market.

With up to 42 percent engine torque rise and continued torque rise down to 1,400 RPM, the Cat® C15 and C18 ACERT engines deliver exceptional pulling power in all conditions. Under heavy loads, the MT975C, for example, has the ability to generate more than 630 engine horsepower (470 kW) — more than any other tractor in its class.

While most engine manufacturers resorted to other methods to meet aggressive Tier III standards, including exhaust gas recirculation, Caterpillar took a completely different path, developing its unique ACERT technology. Through better control of the combustion process, Cat ACERT technology engines meet emission standards without sacrificing power, performance or reliability.

For better cooling, improved fuel consumption and lower emissions, engines are fitted with cast iron wet liners with plateau-honed surface and mid support, which allow for a higher top ring position. The cross-flow cylinder head also features four valves per cylinder for excellent air and exhaust transfer.

Meanwhile, ADEM 4 (Advanced Diesel Management System) provides full electronic control and operates with ‘full authority’ to produce optimum performance with minimum fuel consumption. Hydraulic oil, acting on a piston in the injector, raises the fuel to injection pressure. At the same time, electronic control of the flow and timing of the delivery rate allows the system to tailor fuel delivery to match precisely the engine’s load, speed and operating conditions. By communicating with the ADEM 4 system, the patented Hydraulic Electric Unit Injector (HEUI) fuel delivery system tailors fuel injection rates to operating conditions, reduces noise and emission levels, and improves fuel economy.
