Caterpillar Engine

The redesigned MT500B Series is powered by a 6.6L Caterpillar® engine with ACERT technology.  The engine has 10% more displacement in the same size package as the previous 3056C, allowing Challenger to expand the MT500B series to six models from 100-160 PTO hp. While being Tier 3/Stage IIIA compliant, the C6.6 ACERT is also designed to meet future Tier 4/Stage 4B emissions standards.

ACERT Technology is the key to Tier 3 compliance.  Compared to the 3056C in previous MT500B series tractors, the C6.6 ACERT has no increase in heat rejection to the coolant despite increased displacement and power, maintains a 500-hour service interval, and features increased noise reduction over previous models.  An insulated timing cover and an isolated oil pan and valve cover increase isolation of noise-producing engine components and diminish engine noise, while tighter gear tolerance not only reduces gear backlash but helps minimize gear-train noise, making the MT500B series one of the quietest tractors ever produced.

For added convenience and precise engine control, the Cat C6.6 ACERT allows the operator to program two specific engine speeds and recall each with the touch of a button. Set one speed, for example, at 2,000 rpm for field work and the other at 1,400 rpm to power down for a smooth turn at the headland.
