Caterpillar Engine

Tough crop conditions are no match for the Caterpillar® C-9 engine used in both 600 Series combine models. Using the latest in diesel technology, the 8.8 liter (538 cu. in.) six-cylinder diesel engine delivers more torque for a quicker response without burning unnecessary fuel.

The strength and performance of the C-9 engine is based on a single-piece, cast-iron block with a deep lower skirt. The design benefits include longer life, reduced noise and greater durability.

Meanwhile, the robust C-9 cylinder head and durable wet cylinder liners increase strength, sealing and reliability throughout the life of the engine.

To optimize engine performance and fuel use across the entire operating range, the patented HEUI™ fuel delivery system and ADEM electronics work together. As they sense and adjust to changes in the engine load, responsiveness improves and better fuel economy is achieved. Air-to-air aftercooling ensure the right mix of cool, dense air for the most powerful combustion.

The Model 660 engine is rated at 300 horsepower, while the 670 engine boasts 350 horsepower. However, when the engine rpm drops to 1,900 rpm, the Challenger®’s C-9 engine increases horsepower to power boost levels of 321and 372 horsepower respectively to maintain productivity in tough conditions or when unloading on the go.
