Challenger Introduces SP Series Windrowers

Duluth, GA –– Challenger SP Series windrowers are built under the strictest, most exacting quality control standards in the industry. This hefty machinery is designed to operate a range of headers with smooth efficiency and plenty of power to spare.

“The Challenger SP Series windrowers are the most technically advanced models on the market today,” says Bill Gearhart, sales engineer, Challenger hay equipment. The Challenger SP Series windrowers consist of three models. The Challenger SP80 is equipped with a 239-cubic inch (3.9 L) naturally-aspirated diesel engine, rated at 80 horsepower.

The Challenger SP110 is a high-capacity windrower featuring a powerful 239-cubic inch (3.9 L), 110 horsepower turbocharged diesel engine. This is enough power and torque to handle any field. This model has a two-speed hydrostatic transmission and roller chain/planetary system to drive the wheels.

The SP165 is has a 359-cubic inch (5.9 L), 165 horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel engine. It has the power and speed to pick up and lay down acres of crops at speeds other machines can’t handle.

Solid and Rugged Design

Each SP Series model has hydrostatic drive, hydraulic header drive and hydraulic header flotation. The Challenger windrower’s long wheelbase and wide stance deliver greater stability and a smoother ride. The rear axle is adjustable to three operating widths, including a 10-foot width for working in beds. With standard tall drive wheels and a clean undercarriage, all of these machines have more than 37.5-inches of under frame clearance.

Extra-large fuel tanks and fuel efficient engines allow operators to work in the field longer. A self-cleaning rotary screen pulls in a steady supply of clean air for the engine and radiator. The one-piece engine hood lifts to provide easy access for daily and routine maintenance.

The SP110 and SP165 models are equipped with a 15-function digital monitor. This monitor, which has twice as many functions than any competitor, includes a diagnostic system that evaluates all sensors at startup. This system also gives visual and audible warnings of potential problems and monitors a variety of data including engine speed, header hours, acres per hour and total area harvested.

Enhanced Comfort for Maximum Productivity

The SP Series windrower cab is like none on the market today. Controls are ergonomically designed and within easy reach. A hydrostatic control lever controls direction, speed and fingertip control of most header functions.

The multi-adjustable air-ride operator’s seat gives maximum comfort and support. The high-output climate control system keeps operators comfortable, regardless of the temperature outside the cab. The cab is enclosed in 73-square feet of shatter-resistant glass, including a large curved windshield, for an unobstructed view of the header and other activities in the field.

Wide Header Selection Offers Unmatched Versatility

Challenger offers a wide variety of headers to handle any crop. All three models have hydraulic drive and hydraulic flotation for fast and even cutting, gentle handling and quick dry down.

The 8070 DH disc header is available on the SP165 in 12-feet or 15.25-feet sizes. It handles the toughest crop conditions at speeds other headers can’t match. It can cut through snarled mixed hay, tall grass or lush alfalfa without any effort.

The 8020 SH auger header features a timed dual-sickle system that operates at 1,840 strokes-per-minute. It has an automatic roll separation feature that allows plugs to pass through the conditioner without plugging. This header is available in 14-foot, 16-foot and 18-foot cutting widths, with a choice of conditioners.

For big acreage with a variety of crops, the 5000 DH shiftable draper header is a great choice. It’s available in a choice of four center-delivery headers in 18-foot, 22-foot, 25-foot and 30-foot cutting widths. Three triple-delivery header options in 22-foot, 25-foot and 30-foot widths, let the operator position the swath left, right or in the center. The 5000 DH has three reel options, including a Hart Center (HCC) pickup reel, a Universal UII pickup reel and a metal bat reel. The header can be tailored with more options, including skid shoes and gauge wheels.

On the 5000 DH header, a hydraulically driven, planetary gear, sickle drive virtually eliminates peak starting and stopping loads. The gears are exactly aligned with the knife for better cutting performance and less sickle and guard damage.

Unsurpassed Service and Support

Challenger SP Series windrowers are sold, serviced and supported by Caterpillar dealers. The Caterpillar dealer network is world-renowned as the best-trained, most responsive dealer in the business. They are second to none in on-location service. Each dealer is linked to a 24-hour-a-day parts network to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Their mobile service trucks carry more tools and diagnostic equipment than most repair shops.
