Duluth, GA –– Challenger introduces a new line of heavy-duty round balers –– strong and tough enough to meet the most challenging hay harvesting needs. Challenger round balers are the finest in the industry, with the latest engineering and innovation. They’re built under the strictest, most exacting quality control standards in the industry for years of demanding service.
“Challenger round balers are the only fully-automatic round balers in the industry,” says Bill Gearhart, sales engineer, Challenger hay equipment.
Challenger round balers are designed to produce high-density bales 39-inches to 61-inches in wide and 52-inches or 72-inches tall.
- RB34 – 52-inches (1,321 mm) x 39-inches (991 mm)
- RB44 – 52-inches (1,321 mm) x 47-inches (1,194 mm)
- RB46 – 72-inches (1,829 mm) x 46.5-inches (1,182 mm)
- RB56 – 72-inches (1,829 mm) x 61.5-inches (1,562 mm)
Built to be Tough and Productive Challenger round balers are built with a rugged steel channel and high-strength welded box beams to resist twisting and increase durability. And the narrow T-tongue frame combines strength, visibility and maneuverability.
All models feature an open-throat design that feeds crop directly into a vertical bale chamber, for positive bale starts without plugging, bunched crop, dead spots or stripped leaves. This allows the crop to maintain its valuable nutrients.
The RB46 and RB56 balers feature hydraulic density and belt tension control, to ensure uniform density from the core to the outer wrap. Stuffer fingers move crop into the throat, so valuable leaves are fed directly into the bale with minimal loss. The RB34 features separate belt and bale density control via four rugged coil springs.
The RB34 baler ties bales with a manually-rope-activated mechanism. The RB44 has an electrically-activated twine-tying mechanism. The RB46 and RB56 models feature automatic hydraulic twine-tie systems, with control from the tractor seat.
An optional mesh system wraps bales tighter, keeping bales drier, retaining more leaves and maintaining palatability, especially when left in the field.
Both the RB46 and RB56 feature a self-contained hydraulic system that includes a hydraulic pump, hydraulic reservoir, oil filter and control valve. This reduces the tractor hydraulic requirements and allows for the totally automatic function.
All four Challenger round balers are equipped with flotation tires for minimum compaction and stability over soft or uneven fields. The RB46 and RB56 models can be set to bale with minimal input and operator stress. The operator simply follows steps illustrated on the control panel, stops when indicated, and pushes a button. The baler automatically declutches the pickup, wraps the bale, opens the tailgate, ejects the bale, closes the tailgate and re-engages the pickup.
Unsurpassed Service and Support
Challenger round balers are sold, serviced and supported by Caterpillar dealers. The Caterpillar dealer network is world-renowned as the best-trained, most responsive dealer in the business. They are second to none in on-location service. Each dealer is linked to a 24-hour-a-day parts network to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Their mobile service trucks carry more tools and diagnostic equipment than most repair shops.
