Rugged Performance Built into All-New Challenger Hitch-Mounted Mowers

Duluth, GA –– The all-new Challenger hitch-mounted disc mowers feature the most advanced, reliable cutterbar technology in the industry. These mowers will handle dense vegetation, tangled hay, ant hills or gopher mounds at speeds no other mower can come close to matching.

There are three Challenger hitch-mounted disc mower models.

  • HTD7 – 6-foot-8-inch (2.03 m) cutterbar, 5 discs
  • HTD8 – 7-foot-10-inch (2.38 m) cutterbar, 6 discs
  • HTD9 – 9-foot-2-inch (2.79 m) cutterbar, 7 discs

Fast, Efficient and Rugged

The Challenger hitch-mounted disc mowers feature low-profile discs on the cutterbar that spin at 3,000 rpm for mowing at ground speeds up to 10 mph. These machines have a standard 540 PTO drive that transfers power to the cutterbar via a heavy-duty V-belt drive. They have a full-length broach and segmented hex driveshaft to reduce wear on the drive components. All models are equipped with reversible lower lift pins for connection to any Category I or Category II 3-point hitch.

Each rotary disc is a self-contained module. Each segment, bolted together forms the cutterbar. All bearings, gears and lubricants are encased in each unit. Each disc has two swing-away, double-edged knives that are reversible for twice the blade life. Discs are oval for increased overlap. The modular cutterbar design saves time on upkeep, reduces downtime and cuts maintenance costs. This design allows individual modules to be quickly removed and serviced, without the need to disassemble the whole cutterbar.

An overrunning clutch allows the mower to freewheel until it coasts to a stop, reducing wear on the gearcase, cutterbar and PTO driveline.

An adjustable rubber-coated fabric curtain surrounds the cutterbar. When the mower hits a rock, limb, stump or other obstruction, a spring-loaded breakaway releases the cutterbar and swings it to the rear to prevent damage. All models are equipped with a hydraulic lift cylinder that allows the operator to position the cutterbar from field height to transport height without leaving the tractor seat.

Unsurpassed Service and Support

Challenger disc mowers are sold, serviced and supported by Caterpillar dealers. The Caterpillar dealer network is world-renowned as the best-trained, most responsive dealer in the business. They are second to none in on-location service. Each dealer is linked to a 24-hour-a-day parts network to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Their mobile service trucks carry more tools and diagnostic equipment than most repair shops.
