Power and Productivity Built into All-New Challenger® 600 Series Combines

Duluth, GA –– The Challenger® 600 Series combines provide all the power and productivity combine owners demand. The Challenger 660, a class VI combine, and the Challenger 670 combine, a class VII combine, feature an innovative design and highly efficient rotor technology like no other on the market today.

“We are offering customers a high-capability combine with common-sense operation,” says Tobey Morison, Challenger combine sales engineer.

The Challenger 600 Series combines feature "advanced technology for simplified operation". With fewer moving parts and fewer belts, augers, pulleys, chains and gears, these rotary combines feature the latest in harvesting technology with a minimum of complexity.

The Power to Perform

Challenger rotary combines use Caterpillar’s state-of-the-art engine technology for high power and efficiency with low operating costs. Each combine is powered by a Cat C9 Series wastegate turbocharged 8.8-liter (538 cubic inch), 6-cylinder diesel engine. The Challenger 660 is rated at 285 horsepower (212.6kW) while the Challenger 670 is rated at 335 horsepower (249.6kW).

The Cat C9 engine generates a power bulge when under heavy load. The Challenger 660 horsepower is increased 7 percent to 305 horsepower (227.5 kW), and the Challenger 670 horsepower is increased 8 percent to 350 horsepower (261 kW).

The Challenger 600 Series combines feature a load-sensing/pressure flow compensating hydraulic system that automatically monitors hydraulic pressure demands and directs the flow of oil where, and when, it’s needed. This on-demand hydraulic pressure and flow reduces heat and power requirements, helping to increase fuel efficiency.

On-The-Go Monitoring System

Challenger rotary combines are equipped with a Harvest Management System that incorporates a state-of-the-art CAN Bus electronics and control system, integrated with the engine and other vital combine functions. This system monitors 32 different combine functions for maximum efficiency, and if any part of the system needs attention, the operator is alerted with visual and audio signals.

Ultimate Rotary Technology

The Challenger 600 Series combines features the most innovative in rotary design. The crop moves evenly from the header through the feeder and the spiral feed beater moves the crop to the underside of the rotor intake. The 360-degree rotor feed inlet allows for gentle handling of the crop to minimize grain damage and wear at the inlet.

The rotor is 40-inch x 27.5-inch in length, so the crop is thoroughly, but gently, threshed, for high grain quality. It is a direct-discharge, hydrostatically driven rotor, thus running at a constant speed, even if the engine RPM or ground speed changes. This allows the crop to continue to enter the threshing system at a steady flow. A reliable drive system with two- speed settings gives the speed and torque to harvest even the toughest crops and conditions. The direct-discharge rotor eliminates complicated and unreliable drives and has the added benefit of an improved straw quality for bailing purposes.

“Wind Tunnel Cleaning System”

Newly separated grain is cleaned in the grain pan located directly under the rotor. It is gently shaken and cleaned by a consistent flow of air from a cleaning fan, then moved to the grain bin. As crop is moved to the grain bin, a cleaning fan continuously removes the chaff throughout the process.

A 300-bushel (10,570 L) capacity grain bin and 161-gallon (605.6 L) fuel tank, allows Challenger combines more productive harvest time with less idle time in the field.

Enhanced Comfort for Maximum Productivity

Challenger cabs are large, spacious, and designed to keep the operator cool, comfortable and fully in control. With 61.23 square inches of glass, the operator has a clear view of everything in the field. All controls are logically placed, and all monitors are large and easy to read. Each combine is equipped with a standard instructor’s seat, complete with seatbelt and storage area.

Wide Header Selection Offers Unsurpassed Versatility

A wide selection of headers allows the Challenger 600 Series combine to harvest any crop. Header choices include:

  • Challenger Hugger® corn header in 6-row, 8-row and 12-row sizes
  • Challenger Flex grain/soybean headers in 25-foot and 30-foot sizes
  • Challenger Rigid grain headers in 25-foot and 30-foot sizes
  • Challenger Stripper rice and grain headers in 25-foot size
  • Challenger Draper Headers in 25-foot, 30-foot and 36-foot sizes
  • Pickup Headers in 12-foot and 14-foot sizes
